Jake had his senior portraits made on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Avery and Mitchell Counties. He has loved trains since he was a kid so a train car made for another great setting. It was a nice, slightly overcast day. I love overcast days for portraits as the light is soft and even.
The “tunnel” is another great location for senior portraits as long as the graffiti artists keep their content clean.
This past summer, I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet and fun family. I’ve held off posting to the blog since they were giving portraits as Christmas gifts. This is sweet Abel, his dad Alex and his grandparents. He is a very sweet little boy.
He cried for just a few seconds. I like this photo of his two tears just before they ran down his cheek. Then he was happy as a lark again!
One of the funniest parts of the shoot was when Alex tossed Abel in the air. Abel’s pants were a little big on him and started sliding off. They eventually slid completely off but Granda was ready for a wardrobe change!
You can see the shared enjoyment in these photos of Abel running to his Daddy.
And a definite family resemblance.
Abel enjoyed the red Radio Flyer wagon.
I’m glad the family now has these photos to remind them of Abel at this age. He’s sure to be bigger next summer!
You can see the joy his grandparents get from their grandson.

Thomas & Kiley had a beautiful wedding at the historic Crossnore Presbyterian Church. The church is located in a beautiful woods close to the main road. According to Wikipedia, “Crossnore Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church on US 221/NC 194 east side, opposite the junction with Dellinger Road in Crossnore, Avery County, North Carolina. It was built between 1924 and 1926, and is a one-story, “T”-plan rock building with American Craftsman influences. Also on the property is a contributing stone arch (c. 1926) and non-contributing church cemetery established about 1929. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.” Crossnore Presbyterian Church I heard as a child that Dr. Mary Sloop (1873-1962), wife of Dr. Eustace Sloop, had some children from the Crossnore School, Inc. help carry rocks from the nearby river to build the church.
If you are on Facebook, you might have seen Thomas and Kiley’s campaign to raise money for adoption, “flocking” peoples’ yards with pink flamingos. It was a lot of fun to follow along on Facebook to see who might get “flocked” next. When they were married at the end of June in 2015, I had not yet set up an official photography business and didn’t have a website.
So now I present to you a few images from their wedding day. Don’t forget to “Like”, “Share” and “Comment”.
Poor Megan has had a hard time getting her senior portraits. We were to take them in July and were off to a good start…until I jammed my flash stand into the ground and into a yellow jacket’s nest. At least we think they were yellow jackets. I have yet to have an official allergic reaction to bee stings but have to go to the ER for the past several years due to reactions. Evidentally, it is not technically an “allergic” reaction unless you have difficulty breathing. Thankfully, I have never had difficulty breathing…but also use my Epi-Pen and go to the ER.
Well, back to Megan. We were just about to head back towards my house for her to have an outfit change when I hit the bees. Her mom, Christy, ran up and grabbed the flash and stand while Megan and I headed for the car. We agreed to finish her shoot at a later date…which ended up being in November. I am now blogging her photos at the end of December.
I think you’ll agree that both sets of images turned out great. She is a beautiful young lady.
Congratulations on making it to your senior year, Megan!
I wish you the best now and in whatever you decide to do in the future!
Children’s portraits are always fun to take. I had a good time capturing these images at the Crossnore Elementary School 2017 Fall Fling and creating this VIDEO for you to enjoy.
It was a warm evening and got fairly hot in the library where the photo backdrop was set up. We had both doors to the inner courtyard open and a large (loud) fan blowing to help cool it down. The kids were well-behaved and all seemed to have a fun time. We even had a few parents jump in to have their pictures made too!
